3D Scanning

3D Scanning

3D scanning is a method that captures the shape of a physical object digitally using a laser light. This process does not make contact with the object so there is no need to worry about whether the scanned object will sustain damage. After the object is scanned, it appears digitally with multiple points outlining the object. In doing so you can get the exact size of the physical object and of course scale it down if need be.

Here at Met-L-Flo, Inc., we utilize 3D scanning to help create a multitude of physical prototypes, including metal castings, fused deposition modeling (FDM) prototypes, selective laser sintering (SLS) prototypes, and much more.

If you have any questions about 3D scanning or would like more information on our other 3D printing and prototype services, call us today at 1-800-MET-L-FLO. Or you can fill out the contact form on the right and one of our associates will get back to you shortly.

Professional 3D Scanning

3D scanning takes place before the 3D printing process begins, if you have the digital design or 3D model ready. If you don't have a design ready, we are able to design an idea that does not exist yet and make alterations to your design as well. Adjustments can be made to a current design.

Fused Deposition Modeling is a great example of 3D scanning. FDM is a process that heats and extrudes a thin filament of thermoplastic forming parts layer by layer. Using Three Dimensional scanning allow for better accuracy and to adjust the size of the part that is going to be printed over the previous layer.
