Custom Prototypes

Here at Met-L-Flo, Inc., we began our journey as a consulting firm for the metal forging industry in 1969. In 1991, we introduced additive manufacturing to our resume and our service offerings took off and that’s when Met-L-Flo as a service bureau started. Staying current with industry trends and demands, our service offerings grew with us and continue to grow to this day.

Today, our focus has widened to include more additive related processes such as 3D printing to help develop custom prototypes for a variety of companies to put to use for multiple applications. We are constantly striving to exceed our clients’ needs with a proactive Research and Develop department that is looking for answers and solutions to questions that are yet to be asked.

To learn more about our additive manufacturing processes or if you are looking to develop your very own custom prototypes for new ideas, give us a call today at 800-MET-L-FLO (800-638-5356). You can also get in touch with us by completing the contact form located on this page and one of our experienced associates will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible.

Various Techniques Used to Develop Custom Prototypes

Depending on the materials your idea needs and what your product will be used for, will dictate the method in which your custom prototype is developed. SLA or Stereolithography uses a laser to create your prototype layer by layer. This additive manufacturing technique is ideal for prototypes in almost any industry including automotive, medical devices, consumer appliances, and more.

SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) is primarily used for rapid prototyping. It is designed for a quick turnaround. Instead of using liquid resins, it sinters or melts the plastic powder and is capable of producing prototypes with highly functional properties. FDM or Fused Deposition Modeling heats and extrudes a thin layer of the filament of thermoplastic to form parts layer by layer. The heat assists by fusing the layers together, giving your prototype an increase in its structural integrity. To learn more about our other methods, click on the link.
