Fused Deposition Modeling

Fused Deposition Modeling

Here at Met-L-Flo, Inc., we have nearly 50 years of experience consulting and developing prototypes in the metal forging industry. Our experience as consultants allowed us to gain an in-depth understanding of the industry and prepared us for upcoming changes. This made our transition from consulting to providing prototyping services a smooth one when we introduced additive manufacturing in 1991.

After the introduction of additive manufacturing, our services and requests exploded leading to years of continual growth and expanded service offerings. In addition to SLA, we offer Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and low volume injection molding and bridge tooling that put your parts in your hands well before the production parts are available.

For more information on Fused Deposition Modeling or if you have any questions regarding our other prototyping and manufacturing services, call us today at 800-MET-L-FLO (800-638-5356). You can also reach us by simply filling out the contact form located on this page and one of our associates will get back to you as soon as possible.

Fused Deposition Modeling is Great for Complex Parts

The FDM process consists of heating and extruding a thin layer of filament from thermoplastic to create parts layer by layer. The heat helps fuse the layers of thermoplastic together, increasing the structural integrity of your prototype. FDM is great to 3D print complex parts that are intended for high performance and extreme manufacturing.

We have a vast selection of materials for FDM to ensure a match for your custom prototype. FDM prototypes can be used for a variety of applications including:

  • High heat environments
  • High stress environments
  • Chemical environments
  • End use and low volume production parts
  • Production aids
  • Jigs and fixtures
  • Sheet metal forming dyes
  • Composite layup tools
  • Sand casting patterns
