Here at Met-L-Flo, we create Selective Laser Sintering or SLS prototypes. It is an additive manufacturing process that turns your digital designs into 3D objects. SLS prototypes use tiny particles of plastic, glass, metal, or ceramic which become fused by heat from a high-powered laser, producing your 3D prototype.

SLS is a great application for hollow part prototypes. Different from other additive manufacturing processes, SLS builds parts free of support. The particles or powder become the support of the SLS prototype as its construction is being completed. As part of the process, the interior is coated and assists in creating usable tanks and other containers. Since there are no supports, there is less of a need for human finishing, which limits the risk of human error. When the build is complete, the excess material is brushed and then blown off. Once the part is cleaned you have a fully functional prototype or part that can be used for testing or application.
