Vacuum Forming Prototypes

vac forming prototypes

Thermoforming or vacuum forming is used to produce a variety of large and small surfaced plastic parts. During the vacuum forming process, a flat sheet of material is heated until malleable. Once heated, the vacuum forming table and mold are raised into the malleable material, creating a pressurized seal. The vacuum is then turned on to remove any excess air between the mold and material. This also aids in leaving incredible detail on the part.

The experts at Met-L-Flo have over 25 years of experience in vacuum forming prototypes. Some of our most common applications include plastic packaging, dashboards, food transport containers, point of purchase displays, and interior aircraft panels.

Advantages of Vac Forming Prototypes

Vacuum forming is a quick and cost-effective way to test custom prototypes and low volume production parts. We highly recommend that you consult with us before completing the final steps of vac forming your prototypes. There are many advantages to vac forming prototypes like:

  • Faster than Production
  • Design Flexibility
  • Variety of materials, including grades
  • Molded-in texture
  • Allows for undercuts and bonded-in materials
  • Best of all, it’s cost-effective

These advantages aid in you getting your prototype weeks sooner. When using vacuum forming for prototyping, any modifications can be made at a lesser cost than creating a new tool.
