Experienced Vacuum Forming

vacuum forming

Vacuum Forming during the prototype and fabrication stages of a product can be used to speed up the process. Vacuum forming uses rigid parts cut from other materials such as wood or metal and shaped. That form can be vacuumed without using any additional sculpting, milling or refining.

The process we use at Met-L-Flo involves a sheet of plastic material with varying thickness depending on the application. The sheet is carefully heated until it is pliable for forming. Once the sheet is heated, it is applied to the object being formed and a series of holes in the surface of the vacuum forming table allow the whole surface area to be clear of air in order for a tight fit around the part.

High Quality Vacuum Forming

At Met-L-Flo, our experienced fabricators and engineers can help resolve issues before you begin production on your parts. Consulting with us before completing the final step is highly recommended and beneficial to both you and us. Vacuum forming is also quick and cost effective. The tooling for vacuum formed products is easier and faster to produce.

This results in you getting your prototype weeks sooner and before the production parts. This faster process that utilizes less tools saves you money and allows for modifications at a lesser cost than modifying or creating a new product tool. Vacuum forming is ideal for the testing of custom prototypes and low volume production.

Advantages of Vacuum Forming

The advantages of vacuuming forming are vast and give you more flexibility with your design. Some of those advantages include:

  • Faster than Production
  • Design Flexibility
  • Variety of materials including grades
  • Molded in texture
  • Allows for Undercuts and bonded in materials
  • Cost Effective
