As demands changed along with technology, Met-L-Flo under the direction of their current president Carl Dekker introduced additive manufacturing as part of Met-L-Flo’s service offerings in 1991. This move proved beneficial and the services offered exploded and that’s when Met-L-Flo’s service bureau was born.

Over the years our service offerings continued to grow in order to keep pace with continually changing demands. Today we develop and create prototypes and parts implementing a wide variety of processes that include additive or 3D printing of prototypes to cover a wider range of applications and industries.

Additive Manufacturing Processes

There are a variety of techniques utilized for additive manufacturing. Depending on your time frame, materials needed, and the purpose of your concept will be the determining factors for which process will work best for your application. Some of our manufacturing and prototyping methods consist of SLA and FDM.

Stereolithography (SLA) systems can use a variety of materials to reach the requirements of any program with accuracy and precision. At Met-L-Flo, we have the capacity to work on your prototypes around the clock. SLA is one of the most versatile processes and can be used in almost any industry. It is a perfect balance between your sales and marketing needs.

Another additive manufacturing method is Fused Deposition Modeling or FDM. This process creates your prototype by heating then extruding a thin layer of filament to form your parts layer by layer. This method is a great way to 3D print complex parts for prototypes that are expected to undergo extreme testing and for manufacturing usage of low volume production prototypes.
